Critical reception
This episode received positive reviews and many critics as far as calling it one of the best episodes of this series in recent years. Lauren Hoffman of Cosmopolitan commented on the big 250 Gray's Anatomy episode that stated that the episode was one of the best shows of all time. He goes on to say that the show has always been the best when focusing on complicated emotions, so to make the focus of the 250th episode a match. He wrote, "It may be strange to say this about the episode of Gray Anatomy that is so unusual, but it is the best episode ever, is it?" But it's harder to explain why it works so well, partly due to the fact that this is the first time we saw these doctors as a group that faced their sadness over Derek together - of course, we got a cut scene in three parts of Derek deathtravaganza, but nothing sustained like this.the doctors tried to understand what Penny said interestingly, because every a very individual and nuanced reaction, and therefore a strange and weird moment of reminder about how long these players worked with Patrick Dempsey, and how oddly his departure must have felt. "
Nad praised episodes that were rated episodes with the adage 'A' Grade, â ⬠Å"There are many who ride this one because this is the 250th episode of Gray's Anatomy, but I'm happy to report it no ' at all. In fact, this has to be one of the best episodes this event has ever produced in the last few years. "This site gives Pompeo an award to make this episode so great," There are many reasons why this episode works, but the main reason is undoubtedly the incredible performance of Ellen Pompeo. He adds just the perfect number of layers to the already complicated character, and it's all really nail-biting to watch. "
TV Equals also praised the writing of the episode, "Overall, this is a pretty entertaining episode from Gray's Anatomy.I've filled Perfect Penny and I hope that after the next episode we'll get a bit of a hold on it. episodes with storylines that allow a large number of cast members to interact with each other while still including intimate moments between smaller subset I love the Alex/Meredith and Owen/Amelia scenes. "In addition, the site praised Pompeo," Ellen Pompeo I love how she went from offering drinks to people she never made to stare at a dagger at Penny.I even loved her ruin with Amelia and she was so heartless, but understandably shutting the door on Callie's face. "
Ariana Bacle also sings praise for the episode when she writes in Entertainment Weekly that this episode feels like "Old Gray " because of drama, emotion, tears, tension, and surprise. He noted Alex Karev's concerns about Meredith who said, "Her unshakable concern for Meredith is one of the best things of all time.He does not give up, even when she continues to insist there is nothing wrong, she does not leave him, even she insists that she is good And in some ways, Cristina's departure is harder to take than Derek because it's implied that she's always there, Meredith and Derek constantly going and going, and though Cristina and Meredith have their tiffs, they are always unbreakable The couple broke up, friends like Meredith and Cristina did not, Now after she leaves, Karev begins to take over the role of the Meredith guy - and though Cristina is irreplaceable, she is pretty terrific Meredith (and Cristina) will agree. "
However, Ashley Bissette Sumerel from Fanatic TV is less enthralled to write While she feels important for Derek to remember and talk about, she thinks Penny Blake's looks and arcs are somewhat forced. He writes that Season 12 has been very strong so far, but fearing a mild tone may not last much longer with the relationship between Penny and all the other doctors, the conflict between Meredith and Amelia, and finally Owen's confession of Cristina. He concludes with his opinion about the friendship of Jo and Stephanie who are in trouble, calling him "incapable" and saying there must be something else to their storyline.
