Plot

With only five minutes to get April patient out of the car to the operating table, apprentice Stephanie should help make the path clear. Alex asks Jo if it's okay if Meredith and the kids move in, which Jo misunderstands because Alex wants to plant roots and have a family with Meredith. Alex clarifies the question, so Jo goes to buy a fixer-upper just for her and Alex.

Meredith tried to fix the damage between Amelia and her by allowing Amelia to hear the last ballot Derek had left on Meredith's phone. April tells Jackson that he wants to return abroad, but he gives him an ultimatum: he can go, but if he does, he will not be there when he returns.

Richard tells Bailey that he will be the next chief of operations, but Catherine will not have them. The couple started arguing again, so Meredith played the "my husband's dead" card, and she told them to find out whatever caused their breakup. Richard and Catherine compromised their differences; one of which was that Bailey had to fight the candidate from outside Catherine. By working out their differences, Richard and Catherine were married in the hospital chapel, and they were greeted at the homes of Meredith and Derek.

During the party, Maggie told Meredith that her parents would divorce, and the reason she had not told her before was that the problem seemed so trivial to Meredith. Meredith comforts Maggie by saying she can always talk to her, and she, Maggie, and Amelia "dance-out."

"Added," I'm very impressed tonight as Meredith, who can be very selfish but - in fairness - has suffered a great personal loss in Derek's death, stepping onto a plate on behalf of others. When one considers how this character has grown over eleven seasons, it is truly remarkable. Praise for Ellen Pompeo for her good work. He's really doing the impossible, because I really care what happens to Meredith Gray in the twelve season. "
