Human Heart Map (also called Carte du Tendre and La Carte du Tendre ) is a 1993 film by New Zealand director Vincent Ward. The manuscript for Human Heart Map was written by Australian author Louis Nowra, using a 10-page treatment Ward wrote a year earlier as his mentor.
The Human Heart Map , set mostly before and during the Second World War, centered on the life of Avik, an Inuit Canadian boy. Movie stars Robert Joamie and Jason Scott Lee as young and adult Avik. Her love, Albertine (played as a child by Annie Galipeau and as an adult by Anne Parillaud) is countered by the impressive Walter Russell (Patrick Bergin), who plays an important role as a substitute father for Avik and his main rival in Albertine's love. Jeanne Moreau has a small role as a nun Quà ©  © bÃÆ' © cois. John Cusack also has a small but important role as a cartographer who tells the amazing story of Avik.

Plot
In 1931, in the Nunataaq-Canadian Arctic settlement, Avik (Robert Joamie) lived under the supervision of his grandmother (Jayko Pitseolak). While tagging together after British cartographer Walter Russell (Patrick Bergin), Avik fell victim to tuberculosis, a "white male illness". To reduce her own guilt, Russell took the boy to a Montreal clinic to recover. There, Avik meets Albertine (Annie Galipeau), a girl MÃÆ'Ã… © tis. Both fell in love, but their relationship was quickly broken down by Superior Mother in charge of the clinic.
Years later, Avik met again with Russell, who this time was a mission to restore the U-German ship lying off the coast of Nunataaq. Throughout his life, Avik is haunted by love for the grown Albertine (Anne Parillaud) and by the belief that he brings misfortune to those around him. Avik asks Russell for help in studying his whereabouts, and he gives a cartographic X-ray breast girl he has brought since their separation.
More time passed, and mature Avik (Jason Scott Lee) joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Second World War and eventually became a bomber in Avro Lancaster bombers. Albertine, who had become Miss Russell, sought out Avik. He starts having an affair with Avik, but Russell soon knows, and in retaliation, he sends Avik and his crew on a suicide mission (the bombing of Dresden), where Avik is the only survivor of his crew.
Desperate for his war experience, Avik fled to Canada, where he became an alcoholic. A few decades later, he was sought by Rainee (Clotilde Courau), a daughter born of his affair with Albertine. On the way to her marriage, Avik crashed a snowmobile in an iceberg; when he froze to death, he dreamed of going to his daughter's wedding and flying with a balloon with Albertine.

The Human Heart Creation Map ' the return of the bomb in Dresden is one of the most graphic and powerful sequences in the film. On the day Ward finished filming the scenes, he received word that his father, who actually participated in the bombing of Dresden's history, had died. This is why Ward chose to present the film to him.
The scene in "Nunataaq", the Northern Canadian region where the Avik people originated, was filmed in a location in what is now Nunavut, using the local Inuit in addition. Two other scenes get attention. The first is a very important love scene that takes place over a British military air balloon (not in a cabin or gondola but actually above a hot air balloon), the other is the last scene of a film that has a tortuous ending.
Reception
Human Heart Map is critically reviewed and finds good mention of many film critics. Roger Ebert noted: " Map of the Human Heart tells the story of a towering human adventure - the best kind of adventure, not based on violence, but on an incredible personal journey.It is amazing sometimes the distance that can travel in one life human, and this is a movie about a man who can not imagine the end of his life at the beginning. "
Brian Case in the 2004 Time Out Film Guide, said: "Ward's ambitious love story that spans two continents and three decades and, his execution apart, can emerge from one of the fat romantic stories written for swimming pools, but Ward has such an extraordinary visual imagination that even more bizarre scenes, such as heroes and heroes end up reaching their passion for an outdated balloon barrage, are in the mind, where lack of money dampens his vision of World War II bombing raids in Germany, director it reached a pleasant shorthand with lighting. Awards
Human Heart Map was screened from the competition at the Cannes Film Festival 1992. The film was nominated for the 1993 Australian Film Awards in which the film won as Best Film, and Vincent Ward as Best Director and Robert Joamie won in the Actor category Young. Human Heart Map was also nominated for Best Original Music Score, Best Achievements in Voice, Editing and Cinematography categories. The film also became a winner at the 1993 Tokyo International Film Festival in which Vincent Ward won the Best Artistic Contribution Award, and Robert Joamie along with Anne Parillaud won a Special Award for the Talent Award. Furthermore, Vincent Ward was nominated at the Tokyo Grand Prix. Jason Scott Lee was also nominated for the Chicago Chicago Critics Association Awards for the Most Promising Actor.
