The hour position is the relative direction of the object described using a 12 hour clock analogy to illustrate angles and directions. One imagines the face of the clock lying erect or flat in front of oneself, and identifying the twelve hour sign with the direction in which they point.
Using this analogy, clock 12 means front or top , clock 3 means to the right , 6 : 00 means behind or below , and 9 means to the left . The other eight hours refer to directions that are not directly in line with four directions of the wind.
