Alois Rohrmoser founded the Atom in 1955. Rohrmoser initially employed four staff members, and the company produced about 40 pairs of skis a year. Annual production grew to 5,000 in the early 1960s, and industrial ski production began with the expansion of the Wagrain site in 1966. In 1967, the company produced about 17,000 pairs of skis, rising to 36,000 the following year and 72,000 in 1969 In 1971, the company increased its production capacity by building a second plant in Altenmarkt im Pongau, where most of their ski production is still ongoing. In 1981, Atom began production in the town of Chepelare, Bulgaria, becoming the first western block company to open a factory in the eastern bloc countries. Atom continued to expand its reach, and in 1989, it became the first one-stop supplier for skis, bindings, boots and poles. Ski production reached 831,000 pairs in 1991 and 1992.
However, Atom experienced financial difficulties due to high product rejection when transitioning to Schalenski technology, and failure in the booming snowboard market. In 1994, BAWAG requested Atomic to be included in the insolvency procedure. In November 1994, the Amer Sports Group (which also includes Wilson, Suunto, Precor, Volant and Salomon) gained Atomic for 918.7 million schillings (66.8 million euros), and in March 2006 bankruptcy procedures were lifted.
Atom currently produces about 600,000 pairs of skis per year.

Technology
Atom regarded itself as a technological pioneer in the ski sports industry, and the goal was to "get every skier into a better skier". Innovation of the atomic milestones include Bionic System (1979), HY-Vitronic (1980) and Doubledeck (2008) construction, the first technology to automatically adjust the radius and flex with the style of skiers and ski conditions. Atom develops LiveFit (2009) - ski boots that automatically adjust to the shape of the foot. Since 2009, Atomic skiing is also available with a variety of Rocker technologies. Atomic has recently developed Memory Fit, a hot fitting technology that adjusts boot to the user's feet, which can be found on the top two sales boots in the market.
Atom is also committed to the development of more environmentally friendly production methods: the plant at Altenmarkt uses wood heating pellets during the manufacturing process. The "Renu" line consists of ski boots and boots that are mostly made of recyclable and renewable materials.
Sponsors
Atom currently sponsors male and female athletes in ski races, freestyle skiing, touring skiers, Nordic combined skiers, biathlon racers, and Nordic long-range skiers.
Ski Model
They offer several types of models ranging from All Mountain, Powder, Racing, and Park skiing. One of their most successful models is the Atomic Infamous designed by Jossi Wells.
