The spray bottle is a bottle that can spray, spray or mist fluid. Common uses for spray bottles are removal of cold cleaners, cosmetics, and chemical specialties. Another use of a spray bottle is to mix concentrates such as pine oil with water.

History

While the spray bottles existed long before the mid-20th century, they used rubber balls that were squeezed to produce sprays; air fluid that moves quickly from the bottle. Rapid improvements in plastics after World War II increased the range of removable liquids, and reduced the cost of sprayers because assembly could be completely automated.

Drackett Company, Windex glass cleaning manufacturer, is a leader in promoting spray bottles. Roger Drackett boosted soybeans, turning soybeans into plastics using technology purchased from Henry Ford, and was an investor in the Seaquist company, the initial manufacturer of sprayers and closures. Initially, the initial plastic brush properties require that the sprayer be packed in a cardboard box, and the sprayer is inserted into the Windex glass bottle by the consumer. The cost of making a spray is also a factor; consumers will reuse sprayers with bottles after glass cleaner bottles. As the plastics increase and the cost of the sprayer falls, manufacturers are able to deliver the product with an existing sprayer in the bottle.

In the late 1960s, a spray bottle with a woodpecker actuator appeared and quickly became popular, as the design was less tiring to use. The original pump style bottle remains more popular for applications such as non-aerosol deodorants, where size is a factor and recurrent pumps are not required.

Modern spray bottle

In contrast to the ball rubber dispenser which mainly transfers air with little liquid, a modern spray bottle uses a positive displacement pump that acts directly on the liquid. The pump pulls the liquid over the siphon tube from the bottom of the bottle and forces it through the nozzle. Depending on the sprayer, the nozzle may or may not be adjustable, so it can choose between spraying the flow, creating a fog aerosol, or spraying a spray.

In a spray bottle, this expenditure is supported by a user effort, compared to a tin spray, where the user simply moves the valve and the product is ejected under pressure.

Several designs have been developed. The SSome of a spray-bottle pumping mechanism is similar to a Dispenser pump used for more viscous products.
