In human anatomy, groin (its adjective is inguinal , as in the inguinal canal) is a junctional area (also known as the inguinal region) between the abdomen and thighs on both sides of the pubic bone. It is also known as the medial compartment of the thigh consisting of the hip adductor muscles or the groin muscles. The attracted groin muscle usually refers to a painful injury caused by the strain of the hip adductor muscles.

These pelvic adductor muscles that make up the crotch consist of adductor brevis, adductor longus, adductor magnus, gracilis, and pectineus. The muscles of the groin add to the thigh (bringing the femur and knees closer to the midline). The groin is inserted by the obturator nerve, with two exceptions: the pectinus muscle is innervated by the femoral nerve, and the hamstring portion of the magnetic adductor is innervated by the tibial nerve.

In the groin, under the skin, there are three to five inguinal lymph nodes that play a role in the immune system. It can be swollen due to certain diseases, the most common being a simple infection, and, less likely, from cancer. A chain of superficial inguinal nodes flows to the inner gland.

In a venographic procedure, the groin is the preferred place for the incision to insert the catheter into the vascular system.

The inguinal ligament runs from the pubic tube to the superior anterior iliac spine and its anatomy is essential for hernia surgery.

The 'groin' is sometimes used as a euphemism for the reproductive organs.
