A dependent (British English) or dependent (American English) is someone who relies on others as the primary source of revenue. For example, minors (children under the age of adults) are dependents of their parent or legal guardian. Generally-legally-supported couples of spouses may also be included in this definition. In some jurisdictions, supporting dependency may allow the provider to claim tax deductions.
In the UK, a full-time student in higher education who is financially supportive of another adult can be eligible for an Adult Deposit Fund.
