"A Hard Day's Night" is the pilot episode of the American television medical drama Gray Gray Anatomy, first aired on March 27, 2005 on American Broadcasting Company (ABC). This episode introduces main characters and Meredith Gray's surgical internships, Cristina Yang, Izzie Stevens, Alex Karev and George O'Malley. Other main cast members include Derek Shepherd, Miranda Bailey, Richard Webber and Preston Burke. These five interns are faced with their future as they enter the operating world at Seattle Grace Hospital.
The episode was watched by an American audience of 16.25 million, and received positive reviews from television critics.

Plot
It chronicles the first 48 hours shift for a new surgical intern. Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) meets Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), with whom he last night stands one night, and discovers that he is the new head surgeon at Seattle Grace, as well as his "boss". All apprentices were introduced to their responsible resident, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), who was nicknamed "The Nazi" because of his serious attitude and firmness. ReviewStream.com provides positive reviews of pilot episodes, due to an irrefutable chemistry between Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey from the first scene of the series. Regarding Miranda Bailey's appearance on the pilot, ReviewStream.com stated "She's a very small woman but wait till she speaks". HomeTheaterInfo.com, however, has a mixed perspective on the pilot, noting that the storyline is similar to the fellow ABC series Desperate Housewives, but also "very well written, acting very well and geared toward perfection".
